Gopalpur port has vast infrastructures which handles multiple types of Cargo. With deep draft berths and multipurpose terminals, the port efficiently handles the largest bulk carriers in the world . The port has covered and open storage areas with enormous capacity. Excellent cargo evacuation and receiving infrastructure support smooth cargo movement in and out of the port.
The storage infrastructure consists of the following storage areas:
- Coal:2,30,000 Sq. Mtr. (Semi- Mechanized)
- Coal/Limestone: 1,50,000 Sq. Mtr. (Conventional)
- Iron ore& byproducts: 2,50,000 Sq. Mtr. (Conventional)
- Gypsum, Slag, Salt etc: 1,25,000 Sq. Mtr (Conventional)
- Covered Warehousing: 10,000 Sq. ft.
The port has been provided with efficient infrastructure for cargo evacuation from vessels, jetties, and yards. Better turnaround times for rakes and lorries are achieved as all facilities are close by. The port has the capacity and is equipped to handle 15 rakes and 2,000 lorries per day. MHS is designed to handle 3,000 TPH of coal cargo. A dedicated 60m wide pipeline corridor from Tata SEZ to the port is being developed to transport liquid green ammonia from the SEZ through the port.
Gopalpur Port features deep drafts, year-round operations, and direct berthing capabilities. The port's berths can accommodate the largest cape size bulk carrier with a draft of 14.5m.
Gopalpur Port operates in all weather conditions without any operational downtime, making it a preferred port for commerce. Gopalpur port boasts advanced marine support facilities and resources, which comprise a fleet of tugs and internal dredgers. These guarantee continuous and seamless operations around the clock in every setting at the port.
Rail
Gopalpur Port is well connected to Howrah-Visakhapatnam-Chennai broad gauge railway line through a link line of 6 Km from port to Chhatarpur. Major ports like Kolkata, Haldia, Paradip, Visakhapatnam and Chennai are connected with this particular line. And port planning to have dedicated rail line which expect to meet at Jagannathpur from the port.
Road
The port is connected to NH-16 (Kolkata-Chennai) at about 6 km through NH 516. This gives Gopalpur excellent road connectivity to its hinterland. GPL shortly commissioning to construct a four lane freight corridor to handle its upcoming traffic.
